Our 3rd Annual SHRED-A-THON begins Saturday, June 30th

Our SHRED-A-THON just got way, way cooler thanks to our partners at The Goodway

We’re teaming up with our friends at The Gooday in Kingston to make our annual charity SHRED-A-THON Saturday, June 30, 2018 even bigger. Folks coming to shred their old files with us on one side of Division Street will get a free coupon for 50 percent off at The Goodway thrift shop across the street on the other side of Division. A portion of the sales that day at the Goodway will go towards the SHRED-A-THON, which is raising money to send kids in foster care to college and university.

So, when you come down Canada Day Weekend to shred your old files go across to The Goodway to check out their way cool merchandise, including clothing and household items. Either way, you’ll be helping this community grow. Your shreddables will helping kids in foster care. The stuff you pick up at The Goodway will help reduce barriers to employment and education. You’ll be doing good and having fun Canada Day Weekend. And isn’t that what Canada is all about anyways?

What could be better than taking old documents you no longer need and turning them into bursaries to send youth in foster care to college and university? That’s the promise of our annual charity SHRED-A-THON set for Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Family and Children’s Services offices at 817 Division Street in Kingston from 9:00AM till 3:00PM. Once again the SHRED-A-THON is being sponsored by Iron Mountain, a global leader in secure shredding.

This year, we’re charging $10 a box. That’s different from last year. We’ll be using a banker’s box as the standard to measure against. You can pay by cash, debit, credit or cheque.

You can shred just about anything at our SHRED-A-THON – documents, legal papers, old files, holiday cards from people you don’t like and such. But not cheese, pulled pork, coconut or furniture (which is a job for cats).

And when it comes time to pay, please pay generously. We rely on fundraising to support our bursary program, which last year awarded $57,000 in bursaries to 21 youth in foster care – the most ever awarded in our agency’s 123 year history. Without our help these youth won’t be able to go to college or university. Your generosity at our SHRED-A-THON could make the difference.

Whatever you shred with us June 30 remember that you’re doing more than just slicing big pieces of  paper into smaller pieces of paper. You’re helping one of Southeastern Ontario’s oldest charities help youth in our community who really need it. And it’s fun.
